7/24/14 7:15 am Carlton Complex Infrared Map

This is the latest infrared map for today.  The detection was done at 9:44 p.m.,  last night, the 23rd. Again, the perimeter is drawn outside the most exterior heat so it doesn't mean everything is black inside the line. We refer to the burn as a "mosaic", with many colors and levels of burns.  Some is black, some is brown, some is gold and some is still green.  In some places, it burned lightly on the ground and in others lightly through the trees. And of course, in some areas it burned completely.

It's important to remember that the lightning that came through yesterday resulted in some new starts. And some of those starts were burning directly under the drip line of trees, proving that things are still very dry and the fire grew despite the rain. As the days heat up through the weekend, we are likely to see holdover fires from the lightning storm which we will watch for and try to extinguish.

Just wanted you to know that the rain DID NOT put the fire out. In fact, some parts of the fire to the south did not get any rain at all.
