7/27/2014 10:00 AM American Red Cross Update - Carlton Complex

July 27, 2014 - The Red Cross has opened two Client Service Centers to provide assistance to those who have been affected by the wildfires. Anyone who has lost a home or has disaster-caused emergency needs should come to one of the following locations:

•         TWISP: Methow Valley Community Center, Parking Lot – 201 Hwy 20 South, Twisp. Open   8:00 am – 8:00 pm. Spanish speaking caseworkers available.
•         PATEROS: Pateros High School, Parking Lot.  Open 8:00 am – 8:00 pm. Spanish speaking caseworkers available.

Services available at the Client Service Centers include Red Cross disaster mental health counseling (available by drop-in or appointment for individuals impacted by the disaster); caseworkers who work one-on-one with people to create recovery plans, navigate paperwork and locate help from other agencies; and healthcare staff who are available to assist with health-related needs for individuals impacted by the disaster.

Shelters continue to be open Chelan (215 W. Webster Ave. Chelan) and Brewster (503 South 7th, Brewster). All members of the community are welcome to come by for free food, water, and snacks, to utilize the shower facilities and connect with Red Cross caseworkers, counselors and health professionals. Each shelter has Spanish-speaking staff.

Caseworkers are also available over the phone at (571) 205-3464 from 8am-8pm (Spanish speaking caseworkers available).

The Red Cross has mobilized seven Emergency Response Vehicles to provide feeding sites throughout our affected communities. Feeding will be available during lunch (11am-1pm) and dinner (4:00-6:00pm) tomorrow (July 27) at:
•         Twisp Community Center (fixed site)
•         Throughout the Pateros/Methow, Carlton and Brewster communities (mobile feeding)
•         All open Red Cross shelters – see above

The Red Cross encourages all residents in the area to take action to be wildfire ready. A simple step is to download the free Red Cross Wildfire App (available in English and Spanish) which offers a one touch “I’m safe” messaging that allows users to broadcast reassurance to family and friends via social media outlets, text or email that they are out of harm’s way. The App also provides wildfire alerts and tips on how to prepare before a wildfire threatens your community.

Since the start of Red Cross operations on this disaster (July 17, 2014), the Red Cross has provided 14,464 meals and snacks; 319 overnight stays in shelters; and 300 health and 413 mental health contacts in the community. Red Cross volunteers from throughout Washington and across the country have come to the area to support this disaster operation.
