The
Red Cross encourages all residents in the area to take action to be wildfire
ready. A simple step is to download the free Red Cross Wildfire App (available
in English and Spanish) which offers a one touch “I’m safe” messaging that
allows users to broadcast reassurance to family and friends via social media
outlets, text or email that they are out of harm’s way. The App also provides
wildfire alerts and tips on how to prepare before a wildfire threatens your
community.
Since the
start of Red Cross operations on this disaster (July 17, 2014), the Red Cross
has provided 14,464 meals and snacks; 319 overnight stays in shelters; and 300
health and 413 mental health contacts in the community. Red Cross volunteers
from throughout Washington and across the country have come to the area to
support this disaster operation.
