7-25-2014 South Zone PM Update

Carlton Complex South Zone PM Update
Friday July 25th, 8:00pm
Information Call Center: 509-664-9353 or 509-664-9277 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Fire Name: Carlton Complex (South Zone)        Start Date:  7/14/2014
     Cause: Lightning

Location: The Carlton Complex South Zone is located on private, state
and federally managed lands north of Chelan, Washington.

Current Information:

Fireline construction was successful today on the Carlton Complex
South Zone. The firefighters focused on the middle of the west flank
of the Black Canyon area. Progress remained slow and difficult due to
heavy vegetation and steep terrain. Firefighters were cautioned to
watch for rolling trees and debris. Fire activity was light today with
just a few smokes visible on the far interior of the fire. Helicopter
rappelers created a helispot today for easier access to the fire.  Due
to reduced fire activity after dark, nighttime operations are
beginning to downsize. At this time, there is no threat from fire
activity to the cities of Pateros, Brewster, Chelan, or Manson.

Today’s temperatures increased and the relative humidity will be
dropping into the single digits making for hotter and drier conditions
over the fire for the next few days. The threat of gusty winds over
the fire area has diminished.

Tonight, crews will continue to hold the fire by patrolling areas
where the line has been completed and by extinguishing hot spots along
the fire perimeter near Black Canyon.

Advisories:

Portions of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest remain closed due
to the fire activity.  Please contact the  Fire Information line
