Media briefings held daily at 11:00 AM at the Carlton Zone ICP located at the Liberty Bell High School south of Winthrop.
Community Meeting at 6pm Saturday, July 26th at The RV Park Roadhouse Restaurant in Carlton.
Fire Operations: The fire is now 59% contained, with an acreage total of 250,514. Fire resources made good progress on Thursday. Between Winthrop and Carlton, solid line has been established and crews spent the day improving and patrolling the area. Along the Libby, Gold, and Mcfarland Creek area control lines are close to being completed. On the northeastern side, crews are working to push the fire into the Tripod burn area and are close to doing so. The northwestern portion of the fire, near Pearrygin Lake, has kept fire fighters busy as they prep for a burnout operation that may take place tomorrow. Another burn could take place in the South Gold Creek area. Due to steep terrain and other factors, fire personnel cannot go direct and a firing operation will be conducted to secure this section of line. Fire management will wait for favorable weather conditions in order to complete this operation safely. Residents can expect to see activity in these areas. Crews worked throughout Thursday night, extinguishing hot spots and providing point protection for structures. Today, resources will continue extending and improving fire lines.
Safety Message: Incident personnel would like to remind residents to practice defensive driving. The area roadways are congested with fire traffic and drivers need to be cautious. Please maintain a safe level of speed and always stay in your lane.
