Good morning from all the Public Information Officers on the Carlton Complex. Our Incident Meteorologists tell us its going to be very hot and dry again today, about 92, and that trend will be continuing with temperatures reaching over 100 by mid week. There is even the potential for thunderstorms mid-week with wind & dry lightning. Firefighters are trying hard to get the line buttoned up and as secure before that weather hits.
Fire managers have been watching closely for an opportunity to do some burnout northeast of Winthrop to tie in a spot fire that grew. The intent is to secure the western side of the fire so it doesn't move toward Pearrygin Lake but the terrain is making it difficult for hand crews to bet in a build line, so burning is really the only option. However, that said, although it was hoped today, Sunday, would be the day, the burnout is probably not going to happen today. There are very specific weather parameters before burning can happen and its becoming too hot and the weather too unstable. They will continue to look for an opportunity when they can conduct the firing operation successfully and safely.
In addition the teams that are on the fire are timing out. This means we have reached the number of days we are allowed to work in a row and must transition with another team. So you will begin to see new faces on town and in your neighborhood as they arrive and spend some time shadowing and learning, allowing for a seamless transition Wednesday morning.
