Current Status
The Rocky Mountain Incident
Management Team is now managing the Rising Eagle Road Fire due to it’s proximity to the Carlton
Complex. Yesterday
afternoon, a thunderstorm brought rain and wind to the
Carlton Complex. Lightning strikes and variable
amounts of rain were received
across the complex ranging from 1/4 inch to 200th of an inch of precipitation. Fire spread was minimal and containment is now
at 82%. During
the storm, the blowdown of trees on roadways and within the fire perimeter hampered travel of emergency vehicles
to smoke reports
by the public. Good progress
continued in securing
fire lines throughout the complex with many divisions
working on mop up activities and extinguishing flare ups of unburned
fuel within the north, south and east fire perimeter. Portions
of the complex are now in patrol
status and 5 strike teams
of local engines
were added to patrol and assist
with structure
protection on the Rising Eagle Fire and across the complex. Night staffing
is in place to patrol
and respond to flare ups.
Today’s priorities for the fire focus on the northern
end near Pearrygin
Lake, the Rising
Eagle Road Fire,
northwest of the ski area on Highway
20, and east of Leecher
Lookout. Five Type 1 hotshot crews
will work to secure direct
containment line on the north and west sections of the fire near Pearrygin Lake. Crews will continue
mop up around the Rising
Eagle Road Fire in Twisp and northwest of the ski area on Highway
20, and finish securing the containment line east of Leecher Lookout.
The Washington National Guard continues to support the fire suppression efforts by staffing
road closures.
Closures:
Highway 20 is open to all traffic.
The Forest Closure Order has been expanded to include a larger
area to the north of the Carlton
Complex. Current

Community Center, 201 S. Methow Valley

of showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Haines level 3. A Haines level 3 means low rate of fire spread.

Apparently we will be left with only 2 helicopters starting tomorrow to fight the largest fire in the state history! (per inciweb)
ReplyDeleteIf you are referring to the statement about 2 IHC's. That stands for Interagency Hotshot Crew not helicopters.
