Here is the latest information from the Red Cross (call 509-663-3907):

RED CROSS ACTION CONTINUES AND SHIFTS TOWARDS RECOVERY
...
As Pateros residents returned to their community today to see the destruction, the Red Cross provided trash bags, heavy work gloves and masks to people who were starting to sift through the ashes of their homes. Red Cross volunteers also provided water and snacks at the High School drop off and professional mental health support was made available to those in the community. The Red Cross expects to start mass mobile feeding efforts in the affected areas on Sunday, and remains in close coordination with Emergency Management teams to identify the needs of the community as we move into recovery phase in some areas.
The Red Cross continues to provide shelter support now in six locations (see below). At noon on Saturday, 170 people were registered in Red Cross shelters and 308 meals had been served with 130 snacks provided throughout the day. Mental health professionals were available in each shelter and people affected by the fires are encouraged to take care of their mental health, as significant stress can build during this time.
The Red Cross has opened another shelter in Kittitas at the Secondary School in response to the fire in Vantage where a few homes have been reportedly destroyed. A request also came for the Red Cross to support a community shelter with supplies in Omak, which is operated by the Colville Tribe.
It is recommended that people take time to prepared themselves for disasters, and the Red Cross has developed useful APPS in both English and Spanish that also allow you to carry life-saving information on you at all times, even when you have no internet connection available. Just search Red Cross in your APP store.

Evacuating residents should bring:
• Prescription and emergency medications
• Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
• Identification and important personal documents
• Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, towels, hygiene supplies and other comfort items
• Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula and toys
• Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
• Note: Public health regulations do not permit pets in shelters. Trained assistance animals are permitted.
Key Safety and Preparedness Messages from the Red Cross:
‧ Maintain Situational Awareness: Be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
‧ Listen to local radio and television stations for updated emergency information.
‧ Always back your car into the garage or park it in an open space facing the direction of escape.
‧ Listen and watch for air quality reports and health warnings about smoke.
‧ Keep indoor air clean by closing windows and doors to prevent outside smoke from getting in.
‧ Use the recycle or re-circulate mode on the air conditioner in your home or car. If you do not have air conditioning and it is too hot to stay inside with closed windows, seek shelter elsewhere.
‧ When smoke levels are high, do not use anything that burns and adds to indoor air pollution, such as candles, fireplaces and gas stoves. Do not vacuum because it stirs up particles that are already inside your home.
‧ If you have asthma or another lung disease, follow your health care provider's advice and seek medical care if your symptoms worsen.
