Después de la cantidad de lluvia que cayó la semana pasada, los bomberos pudieron tomar la oportunidad de construir una línea directa en los dos fuegos que todavía están activos y pudieron lograr un gran progreso en los esfuerzos de contener el fuego durante el fin de semana. Aunque un clima más cálido y seco se espera en el día de hoy, se espera que el fuego se mantenga a lo mínimo. Oficiales de información seguirán visitando las comunidades deTwisp, Winthrop, y Mazama para proveer información acerca de los fuegos Little Bridge Creek, Upper Falls, and Carlton Complex.

El fuego Little Bridge, ubicado a 10 millas al Oeste de Winthrop, WA entre Canyon Creek y Little Bridge Creek, está contenido en el 37%. El área quemando tiene una dimensión de 4,958 acres lo cual no ha aumentado desde el reporte de ayer. El comportamiento del fuego está en lo mínimo. Las cuadrillas están teniendo un buen progreso con a las líneas de contención directa en la parte norte y sur del fuego. Se continuará el trabajo de limpieza y a construir las líneas de contención del fuego alrededor del perímetro del fuego.

El fuego Upper Falls, ubicado a 17 millas al norte de Winthrop, sigue con una dimensión de 8,120 acres quemadas. El fuego está contenido en su 35%. El área densa de árboles con muchos combustibles continúa quemándose hacia el interior del área quemada. La conducta del fuego sigue a lo mínimo debido a la lluvia caída la semana pasada. Los bomberos aún continúan con su trabajo en la línea de contención directa y a limpiar.

El Carlton Complex, ubicado a 5 miles al SW de Okanogan, está contenido en su 95%  y tiene una dimensión de 256,108 acres. Aún hay partes que está quemándose en el interior del área quemado. Las cuadrillas, junto con consejeros de Washington DNR y del Forest continúan con el trabajo de reparar los daños causados por el trabajo de supresión del fuego. Todos los niveles de Evacuacion han sido levantados. El 8-Mile, Falls Creek, Little Bridge Creek, y el drenaje de Twisp River aún están cerrados para la entrada al National Forest debido a la orden de clausura Forest. Upper Fall/Little Bridge Cr. Fires and Carlton Complex Fire Update 8-18-14

After last week’s substantial rainfall, firefighters took advantage of the opportunities to build direct line on the two active fires and made substantial progress in their containment efforts over the weekend. Although a warming and drying trend is expected to continue through today, fire behavior is expected to remain at a minimum. Information officers will continue to visit the communities of Twisp, Winthrop, and Mazama to provide information to the public on the Little Bridge Creek, Upper Falls, and Carlton Complex Fires.

The Little Bridge Creek Fire, located 10 miles west of Winthrop, WA between Canyon Creek and Little Bridge Creek, is 37% contained. The fire burn area is still at 4,958 acres which is no increase from yesterday’s report. Fire behavior is minimal at this time. Crews made good progress with direct line on the north and south sides of the fire. Resources will continue to mop-up and construct direct lines around the perimeter of the fire. The Upper Falls Fire, located 17 miles north of Winthrop, remains at 8,120 acres of burned area. The fire is now 35% contained. Dense timber stands with heavy dead fuels continue to smolder and creep within the interior of the burn area. Fire behavior remains minimal because of the recent rainfall from last week. Fire resources are continuing with direct line and mop-up activities.

The Carlton Complex, located five miles SW of Okanogan, is 95% contained and burned 256,108 acres. There remains some smoldering on the interior of the burn area. Crews are continuing with suppression repair in conjunction with Washington DNR and forest resource advisors.

All Level 1 evacuations have been lifted. The 8-Mile, Falls Creek, Little Bridge Creek, and Twisp River drainages are still closed to entry on National Forest lands because of the Forest closure order. Finley Road (#4100300) and Pole Pick Mountain Road (#4100500 and #4100535) remain closed and are impassable.

The incident management team is also coordinating initial attack response for the Methow Valley Ranger District.

Las cuadrillas de bomberos siguieron dando buen progreso en los tres Fuegos, aún con el aumento de alta temperatura. Una alta humedad ha disminuido grandemente la actividad del fuego. Con el aumento de la temperatura de hoy puede que se vea columnas de humo en los tres Fuegos en el día de hoy. La actividad del fuego debe de permanecer en lo mínimo en el día de hoy.

Los Oficiales de Información estarán hoy en la feria de Arte y Artesanía en Winthrop para proveer información acerca de los fuegos del Little Bridge Creek, Carlton Complex, y Upper Falls. Los Oficiales de Información estarán dando un tour público  del campamento de fuego hoy a las 2:30 p.m. El campamento del fuego está ubicado en la ruta de Twisp/Carlton Road.

El fuego Little Bridge Creek, ubicado a 10 millas al oeste de Winthrop, WA entre Canyon Creek y Little Bridge Creek, está contenido en su 29%. La parte quemada ahora tiene 4,958 acres, un aumento de 62 acres del reporte del día de ayer. Recursos continúan a limpiar y construir las líneas de contención de fuego alrededor de los perímetros del fuego. Firefighters continued to make good progress on all three fires yesterday despite an increase in temperatures. High humidity has decreased fire activity substantially. With an increase in temperatures again today, there may be some visible smoke within all three burn areas; active fire behavior should remain at a minimum. Information officers will be at the Arts and Crafts Fair in the Winthrop area today to provide information about the Little Bridge Creek, Carlton Complex, and Upper Falls Fires. Fire information officers will be conducting public tours of the fire camp today at 2:30 p.m. The fire camp is located on Twisp/Carlton Road.

The Little Bridge Creek Fire, located 10 miles west of Winthrop, WA between Canyon Creek and Little Bridge Creek, is 29% contained. The fire burn area now stands at 4,958 acres, an increase of 62 acres from yesterday’s report. Resources continue to mop-up and construct direct lines around the fire perimeter. Type 1 crews made good progress with direct line on the north and south sides of the fire. Road closures and area closures surrounding the fire area will remain in place. The Upper Falls Fire, located 17 miles north of Winthrop, is at 8,120 acres which is an increase of two acres from yesterday. The fire is 32% contained. Recent rainfall over the fire area has minimized fire activity, although a high pressure that’s building initiated a warming and drying trend. The recent rainfall allowed for firefighters to go direct with the fire lines, which has produced good progress. Information is at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4060.

The Carlton Complex, located five miles SW of Okanogan, 256,108 acres. The fire is 95% contained. Suppression repair continues with multi-agency resource advisors. Fire is still creeping and smoldering with some smoke within the interior of the fire. Information is at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3967.

Level 1 evacuations above the bridge at the junction of County Road 9137 (East Chewuch Road) and County Road 1213 (West Chewuch Road) have been lifted. Level 1 evacuations have also been lifted for the Pine Forest, Sun Mountain, and for Twisp River Road above Elbow Coulee. The 8-Mile, Falls Creek, Little Bridge Creek, and Twisp River drainages are still closed to entry on National Forest lands because of the Forest closure order. Many Forest Areas, Recreation Sites to Reopen Sunday on Methow Valley and Tonasket Ranger Districts

Wenatchee, WA- As of Sunday, August 17, Methow Valley and Tonasket Ranger Districts on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest are opening many of the areas that have been closed due to fire activity. Areas that are now open include:

• East Chewuch area
• Upper West Chewuch area,  including Andrews Creek and 30-Mile trailheads
• North Summit and South Summit areas
• Buttermilk Creek area south to Pateros, including Black Pine Lake, Foggy Dew, Loup Loup and JR campgrounds. West Fork Buttermilk, East Fork Buttermilk, Libby Lake, Crater Creek, Foggy Dew and Eagle-Oval Lakes trailheads
• Sawtooth Backcountry

Areas that remain closed include:

• 8-mile and Falls Creek drainages, including: Honeymoon, Ruffed Grouse, Nice, Flat, Buck Lake, Falls Creek, Chewuch and Camp 4 campgrounds; and the Billy Goat and Lake Creek Trailheads
• Little Bridge Creek and Twisp River drainages, including: War Creek, Mystery, Poplar Flat, South Creek roads and campgrounds, and the Twisp River Horse Camp; War Creek, Williams Creek, Reynolds Creek, South Creek, Gilbert, Scatter, Slate Creek and Wolf Creek trailheads.
• Road Closures: Finley Road #4100300 and Pole Pick Mountain Roads #4100500 and 4100535 as they are impassable. Other short-term temporary road closures may occur in the burned area due to heavy equipment doing road repairs.

The North Cascades Scenic Highway Corridor and Harts Pass, as well as east and west portions of the Pasayten Wilderness, Tiffany Springs Campground, Long Swamp and Chewuch trailheads were not impacted by the fires and remain open.

As always, it is a good idea to bring a saw or axe along when traveling on forest roads. Stay current on weather forecasts and avoid areas that have been severely burned. Avoid crossing an active mud or debris flow. Limit use to just traveling through burned areas to reach recreation sites outside of the burned areas. Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return home.
